From August 19 to 28, 2026, SienAgosto returns: a prestigious summer music academy dedicated to young singers and instrumentalists. The program is hosted by the Siena Art Institute, in collaboration with the Siena School for Liberal Arts, coordinated by Valeria Indice, and directed by the renowned English countertenor Michael Chance.
Since its first edition in 2014, the academy has welcomed almost 200 young people between the ages of 16 and 36, coming from more than 30 countries around the world, offering an important educational experience that allows participants to communicate through the voice not only the beauty of sound, but also its meaning, and to share it with those who listen.
The 2026 edition will feature the exceptional participation of mezzosoprano Anna Bonitatibus as a special guest, alongside a prestigious faculty including Michael Chance, Lynne Dawson, Elisabeth Priday, Daniel Taylor, Paul Beier, and Giulia Nuti.
The aim of SienAgosto Academy is not only to revisit the classical repertoire, but also to demonstrate how the study and appreciation of ancient heritage help in understanding any form of singing.
Throughout the ten day program, Siena becomes a true stage where students, teachers, and audiences come together to share and experience music in some of the city’s most evocative locations.
As every year, the public is warmly invited to attend the concerts:
We offer with Lute and Voice
Sunday, August 23, 6:30 PM, at the Oratorio della Santissima Trinità.
The title of this event, which recalls that of previous editions, bears witness to a valuable collaboration that has been consolidated over the years with the Valdimontone Contrada, which offers participants the opportunity to perform in a space of extraordinary beauty, rich in history and culture.
This is a unique opportunity to listen to young international artists who, with their voices and music, will bring to life a magnificent place that is deeply rooted in Siena's cultural heritage.
Così va chi tropp’ama e troppo crede
Thursday, August 27, 7:15 PM, at Palazzo delle Papesse
As part of the "I Giovedì del Rinascimento" program, this night concert, organized in collaboration with the Siena Art Institute, will bring to the heart of the city the freshness and contemporary relevance of Renaissance and Baroque music.
In the beautiful spaces of Palazzo delle Papesse, music and art will come together, thanks also to the creativity of the international performers.
Both events are free and open to the public
SienAgosto Academy and the Siena Art Institute would like to thank the Valdimontone Contrada, Palazzo delle Papesse, and the city of Siena, which year after year continues to welcome the prestigious summer music academy, helping to make possible a unique project that brings together education, culture, sharing and celebration.
