We are happy to welcome the students from The Ohio State University to the SART community for the start of this Maymester program, a program we have been running in partnership with OSU for over a decade!
This course of Landscape Stories: Art and Ecology in Siena is a unique four-week long program that offers students the opportunity to refine artistic, sustainable, and intercultural skills while exploring the cityscapes and cultural heritage of Siena.
The program is organized by the Ohio State University in collaboration with the Siena Art Institute. SART provides not only artistic spaces for collaborative and immersive technical and conceptual training, but also skills and knowledge, allowing the two institutions (SART & OSU) to meet and enrich each other. The resident directors for the 2026 edition are OSU profs Suzanne Silver and Giuliano Migliori.
Through an interdisciplinary spirit, the program features art studio assignments, visits to cultural institutions, initiatives of sustainability and ecology, and a variety of discussions on food, the arts, and cultural land history.
The students’ creative processes are supported by the study of Siena’s socio-ecological efforts in promoting agro-sustainability and land heritage through eco-artistic discourses. Students actively engage in the life of the city and experience the relations between the community, art, and nature in Siena. The ancient and the modern, the sacred and the secular: these comparisons offer additional ideas and inspirations for the works that students are creating throughout the program.
On May 28, students will present works-in-progress during an Open Studio from 3.00 to 5.00 PM at Il Punto/The Point, opening the doors of their studios to share artworks that they are currently developing.
