Mark Dion is a contemporary artist whose work critically examines how dominant ideologies, museums, and scientific institutions shape our understanding of history, knowledge, and the natural world. Drawing on archaeological and scientific methods of collecting and display, Dion creates installations and curiosity cabinets inspired by sixteenth-century Wunderkammern, challenging the divide between objective science and subjective interpretation. His practice explores environmental politics, classification systems, and the authority of scientific narratives in contemporary culture. Dion has exhibited internationally at institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, Tate, and the Seattle Art Museum. He lives and works in New York and is represented by Tanya Bonakdar Gallery.
