Ian Monroe
Ian Monroe is a New York-born, London-based visual artist known for large-scale, architecturally inspired works that explore surface, structure, and perception. He holds a BFA from Washington University in St. Louis and an MA from Goldsmiths, University of London (2002). Monroe gained early recognition when the Saatchi Gallery featured his work from his MA show in 2003. His first major solo U.S. exhibition followed a Freund Fellowship with the Saint Louis Art Museum (2011). Monroe has completed significant permanent public commissions, including The Londoner hotel in Leicester Square (2021) and St. John’s College, Oxford. His work is held in major museum collections, including the Saint Louis Art Museum, Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Hamburger Bahnhof, and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León. In addition to his studio practice, Monroe writes on contemporary art and contributed to Collage: Assembling Contemporary Art (Black Dog Publishing, 2008).
