Baris Gokturk is a Turkish artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. He holds an MFA in Sculpture from Columbia University and an MFA in Painting from Hunter College. His work has been exhibited widely in the United States and internationally, including projects at SECCA (Winston-Salem), the Jewish Museum (New York), the Frost Art Museum (Miami), and Pera Museum (Istanbul). His solo exhibition Public Secret was presented at Helena Anrather Gallery, New York, in 2021. Gokturk has completed public commissions for Columbia University’s Butler Library and the Public Art Fund, and his work has been featured in ArtForum, BOMB Magazine, and The Brooklyn Rail. He has participated in residencies and fellowships at apexart (Seoul), Yaddo, SOMA Mexico, Skowhegan, LMCC Governor’s Island, Fountainhead (Miami), and Siena Art Institute (Italy). He currently teaches at The New School and Columbia University and runs an art program for Johns Hopkins University’s neurology department. He is the co-founder of Junte, an arts and culture initiative in Puerto Rico, and previously co-ran the artist-run space Heliopolis in Brooklyn. He is currently working on projects in New York and Istanbul.
