Elaine Tin Nyo in residence at the Siena Art Institute June 5-July 5

We are very much looking forward to the arrival of artist Elaine Tin Nyo, who will be in residence at the Siena Art Institute from June 5th through July 5th. Ms. Tin Nyo is a conceptual artist who translates the tradition of genre painting into new media. Using performance, video, photography, cooking and writing, she reframes the everyday rituals of food and its preparation so we may reflect on the inherent beauty and value of the seemingly unimportant moments of our lives.  In addition to her visual arts background, she has learned at the side of home cooks and restaurant chefs on three continents. Born in Burma, she has a kitchen and a studio in Harlem, New York.

Ms. Tin Nyo has received project support from Creative Capital, the Bronx Museum, Seoksu Art Project, Franklin Furnace, and The Phillips Collection, among others. Her photographs, food, videos, installations, and performances have been presented at museums internationally. MoMA presented her "Edible Magritte" dinners in conjunction with their most recent Magritte exhibition.

Her current project, This Little Piggy follows five piglets from five ham-eccentric regions from birth to ham.
